Fame For President

Guess it was inevitable. Rumors are that Oprah Winfrey may run for President of the United States. Who would have ever thought that the Presidency of the United States would boil down to famousness? Yes Donald Trump is successful, but he is also incredibly famous. Oprah Winfrey is successful at being famous, and her fame has in turn made her more successful. But is this what we want out of our Presidency? To wager on the most famous candidates and hope that their belief systems are moderately in line with our own.
Proverbs 1:31 says something to the effect of “they will eat the fruit of their own way,” so ask yourself the question, how much time have you spent in front of a TV? How many hours have you dedicated to making that a part of your life? How many hours have you set aside, prioritized, and idolized to see your favorite show? Should not then surprise us then that TV may begin to actually govern our culture: wasn't it already?
Is there any hope? There is always hope in God, and as a Christian I am going to place the same hope in that verse that some will see as a curse. I am going to reap the fruit of my way as well. We can choose to not watch the garbage that is on television. As followers of Christ we can say I will no longer ingest filth into my mind. No longer will I sit just to covet the things I don't have. I am free not to sit here and digest all the gossip of the world into my life. I have the choice to think on good things instead of continually be frustrated by the negativity that is poured upon me by the media. I have the right to think and study God's Word with my free time. Because God made me an intelligent human being with the capacities for creative and productive things, I will spend my time better.
If just one more of us can get out from under the odious plague of television would it not be worth it. If one more would just choose to plant seeds for the kingdom instead of be wasted by the world of entertainment, would God honor that. Be willing to die, cutting off television will seem like a plague of boredom to great to bear until God revitalizes your life with usefulness.
