You know that awkward moment when you feel like you are supposed to speak to someone, that is not what I am talking about. Rather, we are going to talk about that awkward moment when you are supposed to tell someone about your faith in Jesus Christ. Do you know what makes that moment awkward? It is not that the person you are thinking about witnessing to needs Christ; it isn't that God has set up this appointment on purpose; and it sure isn't that God will not help you. What makes that moment awkward is us over thinking it, over reacting in our hearts, and not believing the truth.
The Bible promises that “the harvest is plentiful” (Matthew 9:37). This means that if you will witness people are going to accept Jesus as their personal savior. Simple because you yield to what the Spirit urges you to say the heart of the other person is going to be impacted. No not everyone will be saved, but the same God who promises that you will have eternal life, He also promises that the harvest is fantastically ready. Have you yet known the ultimate joy of leading others to Christ?
Why then does witnessing seem like a burden? What you have to realize is that witnessing is not a burden at all, it is a joyful experience. It is wonderful to share hope with non believers, it is a joy to have answers to the world's problems, it is exciting to see someone accept Christ. The actual burden is when a Christian chooses to wrestle with God and tell Him “No, I will not witness to this person.” Think about your experiences for a moment, every time you have felt like you needed to witness and did not, it was a burden wasn't it? You reasoned, you argued, you justified, you rationalized, against God's command, and that is a burden.
Why not submit the next time you are called to witness? Why not cross that threshold and see if it is life giving? Why not find out if Jesus will help you in the moment? Why not find out that it is not as hard as you thought it was going to be? Why not find out if your Christian brothers who are witnessing are telling you the truth about how great it is? Get out from under the burden and experience the joy of witnessing and the thrill of the harvest.
