This is one of the most ironic titles that any man has ever thought up, it rings quite loud with a Pharisaical flavor. A certain web sight was giving out “Christian” information and the blogger's title just happened to be Christianity Expert. Can't help but wonder what that means. From looking about the sight it means basically the following, that the writer on the sight is an expert in Christian information. But, this poses a very deep question, can you be a master of Christian information without mastering Christianity?
Christianity is not something to know “about” but is rather something one should “know” firsthand. Paul quite clearly states “if anyone supposes that he knows anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know.” (I Corinthians 8:2) Christianity is not information to know about, but is a way of life, and that way reveals to us the utmost struggle to live as we ought to live. By living it we see how much of it we have yet to live, and so no true expert of Christianity would ever claim to be one.
Sadly, most of us fall into the same trap as this blogger, we think we “know” what we are supposed to be doing as Christians. When we say “I know I should pray more” what do we really mean by that? Do we really “know” what we think we know? If a financial adviser was giving you advice but you found out that he was broke, would you think he “knew” what he was talking about? No, we would immediately discredit him because he has no proof, no authority, no influence, no track record to show.
So ask yourself the question, of all those things that you say you “know,” do you know them as you should know them. Instead of justifying your lack of prayer, Bible reading, witnessing, etc... why not admit that you are not an expert on Christian matters. Maybe since you have very little proof of your knowledge you should begin to put your faith into action. It could be then that as you travel through the Word admitting that you don't already know what the passage means that God will open the spiritual realm to you and guide you through your day. Let us not travel on in deceit claiming that we know what we don't, rather let us find out more about what we don't know.
