Homeschool Nation

Households choosing to homeschool their children has risen from 850,000 to 1.8 million in the last several years. Could it be that parents are tired of the failing educational system? We send our children to school and find out years later that they have learned very little. Kids are promoted from one class to the next and can't even read. Teachers lie about children's grades to keep their jobs. Unions keep teachers who sleep on the job or don't teach lessons. That doesn't include the hassle of bullying, sex education, the constant flow of drugs, or mass shootings.

But there are some brilliant reporters our there, Jon Schuppe from NBC news, who state that the main reason for homeschooling is “largely conservative Christians who resist government oversight.” (msn.com, “Devos backlash sees parents threatening to homeshool kids.”) So if you care about your kids at all and think that it is best to keep them safe and give them an education, and you take matters into your own hands, you might as well be a cult militia. You are resisting the government. At least we can take comfort in Matthew 5:10.

It matters very little if Christians choose to “obey the authorities over them” or not, we are going to be accused of things we have never done. How is choosing good for children an act of defiance against the government? If someone chooses to shop at the corner grocery store because it has excellent fruit instead of going to Mega Mart, we call that freedom. If we choose to buy clothes at the local thrift store instead of at Retail Giant America that is seen as liberty. We live in a free country were we have the God-given right to raise our own kids. But what happens when you take away God from “God-given” right? You just have rights, and who then mandates what these are?

Be sure that if you the reader, do not engage in reasoning, educating, and explaining the truth to the culture around you, that same culture is going to turn on you. It already is. Jon Schuppe knows what is best for you, he knows what is best for your kids, and he is convincing people daily of it. Are you going to be the salt that cures the wounds he makes to our country?
