Ricky stopped Stephen dead in his tracks by stating if you destroyed all science and religious books that science books would come back but that religious books would be forever lost. Stephen told Ricky that he had a good point; but Stephen failed to think through the argument. While it is true that many religious books have been created by a single man and contain much false information, the Word of God is totally different.
History reveals itself, why because history is truth. The Bible was not created through creativity, it is rather a revelation and a record of reality. Ricky thinks of the Bible rather as a created myth, but why then is much of the Bible recorded as historical? Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and John were writing from a historical perspective, recording what they actually saw and participated in. We can't measure the miracles, but the towns, the customs, the buildings, the lakes, directions, time frame, etc... all always work out because God's Word is truth. (John 17:17)
To further Ricky's thought there are times when those against the scripture have tried to destroy it. The emperor of Rome, Diocletian bragged that he had completely obliterated the Christian writings of the Bible from off the face of the earth. When Constantine came to power after Diocletian and became a Christian he requested a copy of the Bible be brought to him. Constantine offered a large sum of money and within 25 hours over 50 complete copies of God's Word was brought to him. (truthmagazine.com) Is there something special about a Book you can't destroy?
We also have the fact that the Bible can be duplicated just from how many times it has been quoted in books, commentaries, movies, billboard advertisements, bumper stickers, T-shirts, songs, plays, on monuments, etc.... We can actually thank Ricky Gervais for validating a thought for us. The Bible claims that it can not ever be destroyed, that it will always stand. As we study up on it we find those who have tried to tear it down, and by its survival and multiplication we find that the Word confirms itself as being true. The Bible is equal to, nay above, scientific solidarity.
