Purely Insincere

Do you always use the exact same word to describe your friends? Or do you sometime call them a buddy, confidant, companion, acquaintance, a connection, brother, comrade, colleague, best friend,

partner, associate, etc.... Depending upon the circumstances and how our friend fits into the picture we may use a synonym to describe someone who is truly best called a friend.

Phillips translates Matthew 5:8 as “Happy are the utterly sincere for they shall see God.” He substitutes “sincere” for the Greek words “pure of heart.” That gives us a further glimpse into great character. A pure heart is absolutely going to be sincere; so the simple question we must ask is am I insincere about anything, and if so what is that revealing about me?

But using the word “sincere” to substitute for “pure in heart” will not completely work; reason being is that we often find people who are very sincere about the evil that is in them. There are the wicked who are incredibly proud of what they think and feel and they will sincerely tell you all about it, Jesus is not promising that they will see anything. We also find Christians who brag about their sins reveling in the fact that they are fallen creatures of the flesh who have justifiable excuse to sin, this will not do either. Those who are pure in heart are sincere, but being sincere does not mean one will be pure.

The truly pure in heart will see God because of sincerity; here is how it shall happen. Doing good, being pure, living Godly, bears fruit, very satisfying fruit. When one has flushed insincerity from their beings, and only has pure motives, open intentions, unconditional love, they will automatically create an atmosphere of trust in those about them. This openness fosters the perfect environment for love to flow from and to the person. Jesus told us that we would be known by our love, we know that God is love. How can we know God's love, experiencing it among the brethren, if insincerity is the primary attribute in our relations? We must be pure, which brings sincerity, which fosters trust, which paves the way for the love of God.
